About the Print
About the artwork
A Rich Mestizo is a Tipos del País illustration depicting a wealthy Filipino mestizo dressed in formal 19th-century attire, including an embroidered barong, European-style top hat, and parasol. The composition reflects the blending of indigenous and European influences in Philippine colonial fashion and social identity during the Spanish period. Works from the Tipos del País tradition documented the clothing, occupations, and social classes of Philippine society through detailed costume studies.
