About the Print
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This colorized postcard depicts Escolta Street in Manila during the early American colonial period, looking east along the thoroughfare. The image records the street at its commercial peak - early automobiles and a horse-drawn calesa share the tram-lined road, while shopfront signs for establishments including El Barato and La Flor de Isabela Cigars line both sides. Published in 1922 by D. Denniston, a Manila-based dealer in photographic views and postcards operating from 118 Escolta.
