About the Print
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This colorized postcard depicts the lower Pasig River in Manila, showing inter-island steamships and smaller covered bankas moored along the quay during the American colonial period. The Pasig River served as the primary commercial waterway of Manila, connecting Manila Bay to Laguna de Bay and sustaining inter-island trade across the archipelago. By the early 1900s the river was lined with shipping companies operating freight and passenger vessels between Manila and the outer islands.
