About the Print
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This colorized postcard presents an elevated view of the Pasig River in Manila, densely lined with casco freighters — flat-bottomed wooden barges roofed with bamboo or rattan that served as the primary freight and passenger vessels of the river throughout the Spanish and American colonial periods. A steel bridge and the Manila skyline are visible in the background. Published around 1910 by Denniston's of Manila, the same publisher responsible for several documented postcard views of the Philippine capital during the American colonial period.
