A Guardia Civil is a Tipos del País illustration depicting a colonial-era guard dressed in formal uniform with a traditional hat and saber. The composition documents the military and civil authority figures present in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period, rendered through detailed costume study and observational portraiture. Works from the Tipos del País tradition served as visual records of the social classes, occupations, and cultural identities of 19th-century Philippine society.

Justiniano Asuncion was a Filipino painter and illustrator known for his Tipos del País works portraying the people and dress of colonial Philippine society. His illustrations remain valuable historical records of 19th-century Filipino life and costume.
